Eldoret International Airport
Kenya Airways’ launch of flights to Eldoret is a welcomed move as it will attract more investment in the North Rift Valley. The Eldoret International Airport  has recorded a more than 20 percent increase in the number of passengers in the past year. The airport handling three cargo flights namely;
  • Emirates Air - Boeing 777 with a capacity of 110 tonnes
  • Egypt Air -airbus with a capacity 45 tonnes
  • Etihad - an airbus with a capacity of 45 tonnes
Kenya Airways  began her operations between Nairobi and Eldoret on 17th October, 2012, with a belly cargo capacity of 1 tonne (translating to 2tonnes/day). Arrangements are underway for Kenya Airways to bring in a cargo freighter (Boeing 737) between Eldoret and Sharja, U.A.E. on a weekly basis.  The approximate tonnage will be 45 tonnes.

It is worth noting that, Eldoret International Airport has the capacity to earn the country more than kshs.10 billion from horticulture exports but currently makes about kshs.200 million annually from both the exports and imports. Measures that are being put in place to make sure the airport is more active in both the exports and imports, it is projecting to record more than 15% growth by the end of next year.
