Kenya Tops in Blantyre, Malawi
Kenya scooped the first prize for the Best Foreign Exhibitor in the International Exhibitor category during this years  Malawi International Trade Fair (MITF) held in Blantyre from 25th May to 3rd June, 2012.  The event was officially opened by Malawi’s Head of State, Her Excellency Mrs. Joyce Banda who extended a warm welcome to foreign exhibitors and urged the local exhibitors to seize the opportunity to learn from foreign exhibitors and clinch deals with them.
President Banda was accompanied by the Minister for Industry and Trade, Ho. John Bande and the President of Malawi Confederation of Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Mr. Mathews Chikankeni among other Government dignitaries and captains of industry from the private sector. The 24th Malawi International Trade Fair which was held under the theme “Realising our Vision The Export Way” attracted a total of one hundred and seven companies, sixteen of them from the following seven foreign countries; Pakistan, Malaysia, Zimbabwe, Philippines, Tanzania, Zambia  and Kenya. Kenya’s participation comprised of two companies exhibiting textiles and crafts from four small enterprises and a Malawian Company importing and distributing Kenyan manufactured products from consumer products from Kapa Oil, Kenafric Industries and Trufoods to mention a few. A range of Kericho Gold tea brands, Manji Biscuits, Delmonte juices and chocco drinking chocolate.
 
Prior to the opening ceremony to mark the 24th edition of Malawi Trade Fair, Her Excellency Mrs. Joyce Banda toured the pavilions and we were privileged to have her at our stands where she signed the visitor’s book and reminisced over her stay in Kenya as she spoke to the exhibitors in Kiswahili. Kenya’s participation was facilitated by the Mission in Lusaka with the support of Ministry of Trade, Export Promotion Council and partnership with the private sector.
