Expression of Interest for Consultancy Services to Conduct a Study on Export Market Development in the Republic of South Sudan


The Export Promotion Council (EPC) is a state corporation whose Mission is to develop and Promote Kenya’s exports of goods and services and to harmonise export related activities.

Through the support of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) it seeks to engage the services of a consultant to undertake a study on the Socio-Economic, Legal and Business environment of the newly independent Republic of South Sudan. The study is expected to enhance the information pool on the current business dynamics in the Republic of South Sudan market and will enable wider latitude for economic interaction with the nation.


The Objective

The overall objectives of the assignment are:

  • To analyse the socio economic and market dynamics, leading to re-positioning of Kenyan business relations with the Republic of South Sudan.
  • To undertake a detailed feasibility study on the business relations in the market with specific emphasis on the requirements for establishing distribution systems.


To this end the Export Promotion Council now invites expression of interest from eligible consultancy firms to undertake a study on export market development in the Republic of South Sudan. The total duration of the study shall not exceed three (3) months and requires at least two (2) key experts.


Interested firms, consortium or researcher should submit the following documents along with signed and sealed Letter of Expression of Interest:

  1. Detailed Company profile
  2. List of Verifiable previous experiences of similar study within the last three years
  3. Copies of registration certificates and business licenses
  4. Audited Financial statement for the Past three years



Professional Requirements

  • Professional research institutions or; Consultants with at least 5 years relevant professional experience and Proven track record on International consulting or, domestic consultancies on complex socio economic relations, business development, supply chain management and business network development
  • Strong knowledge of economic, social and political developments in the larger Sudan and specifically the Republic of South Sudan project region.
  •  Experience in working in a multicultural and post conflict environment will be an added advantage.


Submission of Expression of Interest

One Original and a copy of the Expression of Interest in English must be received in one sealed envelope; Clearly Marked “Consultancy for Market Research in the Republic of South Sudan” should be received at the Export Promotion Council, not later than Mid Day 6th September, 2011. Late submissions will be rejected and returned unopened.


Bidding Documents, including detail Terms of Reference (ToR) would be sent to short listed firms that meet the technical requirements for the final stage of the selection process.
