Invitation to participate in the Micro and Small Industry (MSI)

Kenya Industrial Research and Development Institute (KIRDI), Kenya Industrial Estates (KIE) and Export Processing Zone Authority (EPZA- Incubator) are collaborating in a 12-month virtual incubation project aimed at building the technical and business competencies of entrepreneurial start-ups that equips them toward becoming locally, regionally and internationally competitive.

Technology Business Incubators have demonstrated the ability to increase the survival rate of start up enterprises beyond the first five years of operation from 20% to 80%. This is achieved through provision of both technical and business development skills required for the enterprise to grow over an extended period.

This programme targets growth-oriented start-ups (cottage industries, Jua Kali, MSI) and entrepreneurs based in the Nairobi area and who are operating in the following sectors.

The workshop will inform on available support opportunities, from KIRDI, KIE and EPZA and other institutions, which if exploited by MSI can lead to their sustainable growth.

During the workshop, a competitive selection of twenty five (25) MSI will be carried out to identify those who will participate in the 12-month virtual incubation process.

The selected companies will go through a 12 -month support process, both in technical and business development skills in the selected sectors, after which the most competitive firms will be linked to the K.I.E or EPZA –incubator or directed to other support for acquisition of required skills.  More information on this will be provided in the workshop. The information provided at the workshop should be enough for those companies not selected among the twenty five (25) to move their innovations / companies forward.

Lunches, teas and hand out notes on the various support services will be provided.

Date: From Tuesday February 15  at 8:30am to Thursday 17th 2011. 

Registration and Participation Fee  To be registered for the three-day workshop you are required to pay Kshs 3,000 per participant to Kenya Industrial Research And Development  Institute, cashiers office  and enter your Name /, Sector of Interest/ Mobile Number / Email Address in the registration book at the cashier’s office.
