How to Optimise Your Websites
There are various ways of optimizing your website so that potential clients can easily reach you. In this article we have chosen to concentrate on use of key words in search.

Terms used
Search Engine - Software program that searches for sites based on the words that you designate as search terms.  Search engines look through their own databases of information in order to find what it is that you are looking for. Example of search engines include Google, Yahoo, MSN, AOL etc.
Keywords: Word or phrase (combination of words, such as Kenya Tea or Tea  Kenya’ ) used to find relevant and useful web pages.

How Search Engines Determine Relevancy.
They follow a set of rules, known as an algorithm. Search engine's algorithm’s are a closely-kept trade secret.

Key rules:

  • Location or order of Keywords
  • Frequency of Keywords

Location or order of Keywords
While preparing this document, I tried searching for “Tea Kenya” and the results were as below
Results 1 - 10 of about 4,890,000 for Tea Kenya. (0.25 seconds)Frequency of Keywords
Kenya Tea on the other hand gave the results below

Results 1 - 10 of about 1,040,000 for Kenya Tea. (0.22 seconds)

Frequency of Keywords
The more a given word is used or searched for by internet users, the higher up it goes. For instance just after the earthquake that befell our brethren in Haiti, the world Haiti and earthquake were so high up  and the sites that would come on the first page of the search would have stories related to the incidence. Now that the attention on Haiti is slowly fading, the same words are slowly dropping. At the same time if you went to Google right now and typed the word draft, the options I received were:-
Draft constitution of Kenya
Draft constitution of Kenya 2009
Draft constitution
Draft game
Draft constitution of Kenya download
By this you can know that most Kenyan are searching for the proposed constitution to read.

Criteria in Choosing Keywords
Demand: How many people search for information using this keyword?
Supply: How many of your competitors are using this keyword?
