It is in this regard that the Export Promotion Council in collaboration with the Centre for Promotion of Imports from Developing Countries (CBI) is unveiling a number of grand openings for exports in the European market.

CBI has a longstanding experience in guiding companies to export success. A range of manuals and export programmes is available for companies to prepare for export ventures. One such programme is the Export Coaching Programme (ECP).

  • Natural Ingredients for Food, Pharmaceuticals and Cosmetics

  • Medical Devices and Laboratory Equipment 2009-2015
  • Pipe and Process Equipment 2009 - 2013/2016

  • Engineering Services

What is the Export Coaching Programme?

The Export Coaching Programme (ECP) aims to assist producers and exporters in developing countries in entering the European market and establishing sustainable trade relationships with European buyers by:

  • Assisting you in meeting market requirements;
  • Providing skills and knowledge on the European market;
  • Providing opportunities to enter the European market.


It will be implemented by the CBI. An ECP will help your company to:

  • Adapt its products to EU market requirements and standards;Become familiar with EU markets and business practice;
  • Develop an export marketing strategy;
  • Export to the EU market;
  • Consolidate your export position in the EU.

Through a step-by-step approach, beneficiary companies are given intensive support in order to get a firm and durable foothold on the EU market. Furthermore, they will receive the relevant market survey(s) published by CBI. Depending on the needs and requirements, beneficiary companies will be coached by a team of CBI sector experts in the field of;

  • Production
  • Quality control
  • Management and export marketing
  • Market entry.

In order to foster market entry, beneficiary companies will participate in a leading trade fair in Europe.

A Step-By-Step Approach under the ECP to Access The European Market
An ECP consists of 3 clear and simple steps, all essential to enable your company become a successful exporter to the European market:

Step 1:      Application and selection
Step 2:      Technical assistance and training
Step 3:      Market entry

What is the Duration of the ECP?

On average an ECP last a period of maximum six years.

What is the Eligibility Criteria to Participate in an ECP?

The ECP’s are meant for companies in developing countries that have the capacity (or potential) to export to the EU. A company that meet the following criteria can apply for an ECP (please note: some ECP's may have additional criteria):

  • At least 51% locally owned, or (co-) owners who reside in another developing country (excluding developing countries characterized as Upper Middle Income Countries -UMIC or higher*);
  • Has 25 to 500 employees;
  • Not in joint venture with a company based in a country with a classification of UMIC or higher;
  • Compliance or the willingness to comply with EU market requirements;
  • Absence of licensing commitments that prohibit or limit export possibilities of products to the EU
  • Competitive prices and sufficient production capacity;
  • A management which is able to communicate in English;
  • The willingness and capacity to invest in adaptations of, for instance, product assortment and production processes, if and as required by the European market.

Each participating company in this six year programme is expected to pay a non-refundable commitment fee of € 1000 to CBI.
