Kenya Moves Up 12 Positions In World Bank Ease Of Doing Business Index
Kenya jumped 12 places globally in the World Bank ease of doing business index to position 80 out of 190 global economies and 3rd most reformed economy in Sub-Saharan Africa for 2018. The following business reforms were noted;
  • Starting a Business: Start up procedures for setting up a business are merged.
  • Construction Permits: Construction permits are less expensive due to elimination of fees for clearances from the National Environment Management Authority (NEMA) and the National Construction Authority.
  • Access to Electricity:  improved reliability of electricity due to investment in distribution lines and transformers and setting up a specialized squad to restore power when outages occur.
  • Access to credit: Improved access to credit information by starting to distribute data from two utility companies.
  • Payment of Taxes: Paying taxes more convenient due to implemention of the KRA online platform, iTax, for filing and paying corporate income tax and the standards levy.
  • Trading across Borders:  Reduction of time for import documentary compliance by utilizing the KENTRADE single window system, which allows for electronic submission of customs entries.
