EPC aims to enhance Kenya’s competitiveness and increase exports through quality Product Development and value addition of manufactured goods to assist new and potential exporters enhance their export capacity. In this financial year, EPC has planned to assist SMEs (particularly youth and women) from all 47 counties in Product Development and capacity building for the export market.

These programmes have been designed to ensure that the selected enterprises;
 • Introduce newly developed products to the market and thereby increase product variety;
•Utilize the newly acquired knowledge and information on best technology for developing new products and processes from the product specialists.
• Receive knowledge and skills to enhance their export readiness and competency in export trade.
• Successfully transact export business, participate in export promotional events, get and fulfil export orders after the training.
These being fully integrated programmes, the beneficiaries of the programmes will tap into the expertise offered by EPCs strategic partners in Product Development comprising of specialists drawn from; the University of Nairobi (UoN - School of the Arts and Design and the Department of Engineering and Manufacturing), Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture & Technology (JKUAT), Kenya Industrial Research and Development Institute (KIRDI) and Kenya Bureau of Standards (KEBS).

A series of activities are lined up during the Product Development cycle and these include:
  • Identification & of selection of suitable enterprises / groups;
  • Instructive Training workshops & Onsite Company Coaching;
  • Packaging design and development including branding;
  • Labelling and bar coding;
  • Certification of the newly developed products by Kenya Bureau of Standards (KEBS);
  • Mini exhibition and selection of winning products for test marketing; in regional and international trade promotion events.
  • Test marketing in a regional/international trade fair.
