Tea for Health International Marathon
The sixth edition of the annual ‘Tea for Health’ International marathon which is being organized in conjunction with Athletics Kenya (AK) and the National Olympic committee of Kenya (NOCK); will take place in Kericho Kenya on 9th May 2015. During the previous five editions, the marathon attracted a significant number of local athletes mainly drawn from Kenya pool of athletes.
Since the year 2010, AFFA-TD has been organizing the “Tea for health marathon” in Kericho. The marathon was organized from a local platform in 2010 and 2011 before being escalated to International status in 2012 and 2013 edition. The purpose of the marathon is to build the brand profile of Kenya tea through association with healthy lifestyles while focusing the health conscious consumers to Kenya as the origin of high quality tea. Auxiliary to this is to encourage tea tourism as part of the larger agri-tourism initiatives.

The 2015 marathon is expected to gather not less than 1000 athletes from Kenya,Africa, and the rest of the world.

 Objective of Marathon

  • To promote tea as a healthy drink and a beverage of choice for sports men and women.
  • To harness the importance of athletics and tea as key national resources for enhancing Kenya’s profile in the international arena.
  • To present publicity and marketing opportunities to Kenya tea industry stakeholders and global partners.
  • To promote tea tourism in Kenya by exposing the large, well tended, scenic Kenya tea farms to the world.

  • The fun loving and adventurous general public.
  • Families/holiday makers

 The Tea for health international marathon has double objectives of promoting Kenya tea and promoting tea tourism. The race is divided into the Professional 42 kilometer race; 10 kilometer corporate challenge; and the 5 kilometer family race.
