The 2014 Agricultural Society of Kenya Mombasa International Show-Success Story
The 2014 Agricultural Society of Kenya Mombasa International Show was held on 27th to 31st August 2014 at the Jomo Kenyatta Showground in Mkomani Mombasa. The Mombasa Show whose theme was ‘Enhancing Technology in the Agricultural Sector for Food Security and National Growth’ was officially opened by H.E. President Uhuru Kenyatta on 28th August, 2014
The magnitude of the event could not be more emphasized since the Cabinet Secretary for EAC, Commerce and Tourism Hon. Phyllis Kandie was the Chief Guest on the following day 29th August, 2014. The CS was accompanied by PS Dr. Ibrahim Mohammed, National Chair of ASK Ms. Alice Kalya and Mombasa County Executive Secretary for Agriculture Mr Anthony Njaramba in visiting various stands in the Mombasa show including the Export Promotion Council’s Pavilion.

The Council’s participation in the annual event was geared towards creating awareness of its nationwide mandate and services offered for the promotion and development of Kenya’s exports. Clients served by the EPC regional office in Mombasa provided their product samples for display at the stand while four SMEs who have participated in the Council’s programmes showcased their products as exhibitors. The aim for the SMEs to participate was to create an avenue through which as potential exporters they would have direct contact with existing exporters and the business community at large thus benefiting from their experience.

At the EPC stand, the Cabinet Secretary and her entourage was warmly received by the EPC Director Mr Amir Merali and the regional office staff. The Regional Coordinator Coast took Hon. Kandie and dignitaries through the Council’s programs as they toured the pavilion to see the exhibited clients’ sample products.
The strong branding in corporate colours and location of the EPC pavilion turned out to favour both the Council and the exhibitors as compared to the previous year. Eighty one people were recorded to have visited the stand and twenty recorded enquiries were of better quality compared to last year. Some of the exhibiting clients reported good spot sales.

The Mombasa International Show is the only event organized by the ASK for the whole Coast Region. Its value cannot therefore be more emphasized since the event provides an avenue through which goods and services made in the region can be showcased to the public, the business community and potential investors.
