Merger of former Agricultural Research Institutions and creation of KALRO
ImageFollowing the Government restructuring programme of State Parastatals, stake holders and farmers are informed of  subsequent enactment of Kenya Agricultural and Livestock Research (KALR) Act No.17 of 25th Jan 2013 and commencement of the Act on 1st July 2014, that four State Corporations namely;
Kenya Agricultural Research Institute (KARI), Tea Research Foundation (TRF) and Coffee Research Foundation (CRF) and Kenya Sugar Research Foundation (KESREF) were formerly dissolved and merged to form Kenya Agricultural & Livestock Research Organization (KALRO). 
The KALR Act which established the new organization shall take over all the rights, obligations and contracts of former institutions which it shall duly honour. The KALRO Act in section 31 also created the following semi-autonomous Institutes under the organization to carry out focused research in their fields.

1.  Food Crops Research Institute
2.  Dairy Research Institute
3.  Arid and Range Land Research Institute
4.  Horticultural Research Institute
5.  Genetic Resource Research institute
6.  Biotechnology Research institute
7.  Beef Research Institute
8.  Apiculture Research Institute
9.  Non –Ruminant research Institute
10. Sheep and Goat Research Institute
11. Veterinary Science Research Institute
12. Industrial Crop Research Institute
13. Tea Research Institute
14. Coffee Research Institute
15. Sugar Research Institute
