Export Payment Manual
Export Payment Method manual covers the international payment method of export business, especially regarding remittance, problem in remittance, documentary bill with L/C, documentary bill without L/C, letter of credit (L/C) and Uniform Customs and Practice for Documentary Credits (UCP). It explains some of the jargons commonly used in export payment method.
Its good for you to understand that an export payment method has a very important role to expand the export of Kenya. If Kenya sticks to advance payment as export payment method, it is very difficult to increase her export. It can be said that the advance payment is a payment method to be weighed against the importer. When the importer wishes to import goods to the extent of paying the proceeds in advance, this method of advance payment takes effect only in the case where the exporter’s position is extremely strong (e.g. the goods can be imported only from that exporter). In order for Kenya to increase its export, documentary bill with L/C has to be promoted as export payment method.

It explains some of the jargons commonly used in export financing.

In order to expand the export of Kenya an export financing is the most important key. Although marketing may be important and development of new competitive export merchandise may be important, the development of adequate export financing dominates the expansion of export of Kenya. There is no money; there is no expansion of export.

It is our wish that this manual is to be revised, updated and enlarged to be comprehensive so that one day this manual and those of the following modules combined will evolve into the standard reference material for export business in Kenya, to be uploaded in the website of EPC for quick and easy access.

How To Approach Banks A Guide For Kenyan Entrepreneurs

Introduction

Following a series of consultations with stakeholders including exporters, trade associations, development partners and government institutions, the Council realised that access to credit facilities was one of the major constraints facing exporters in the country.

How to Approach Banks was developed in response to this gap.  A joint publication of the  Export Promotion Council (EPC) and the International Trade Centre UNTAD/WTO(ITC), the guide is intended for exporting traders and manufacturers who need to approach banks and other financial institutions for short term trade credit. It is particularly aimed at relative newcomers to the business community, especially to the world of international trade.

As one of the players in the financial sector, we trust that sharing the knowledge contained in this publication with your present and prospective clients will be a gesture of social responsibility and may go a long way in translating in actual business for your institution.

We invite you to purchase a copy at a cost of Ksh 500 from our offices.
